Transportation and Turkey!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING BLOGGERS!! :)

In a few short hours I will be stuffing myself with delicious food and preparing for some Black Friday shopping!  But now is the perfect time for some football and blogging!

Before we left for break, my firsties and I were learning all about transportation from the past and present.  We were also speculating what transportation might be like in the future.  After much reading and discussion, the students made their own transportation dioramas.  They could each choose what type of transportation to build (air, water, land) as well as a time period (past, present, or future).  When the projects were brought in, each first grade classroom became a transportation museum!  The students were able to walk through each classroom and see the other project ideas.  We had so much fun, and many of the projects were SO creative!

As always, I have so much to be thankful for!!  I LOVE my job and my students, and couldn't be happier.  Everyone have a safe and wonderful holiday!! :)

WAY Overdue!!!

Oh my goodness, I can't believe how long I've gone without an update!!  I'm so ashamed...We're having lots of fun in first and counting down the days until Thanksgiving break!

We've been working on all those blends in word study block.
Love this Pinterest idea!!!

Our school has been focusing on the 8 Standards of Mathematical Practice this year, so we've been going down the list and learning about each one.  We had a little cheer about persevering for number 1, and then we practiced showing numbers in many different ways for number 2.  For each new standard we learn, I color it in on our chart.  Our school's math specialist found the awesome cutouts for the poster!

Today's social studies lesson was so fun!  We've been discussing similarities and differences between the past, present, and future.  Yesterday we learned about timelines, and I made my own for the class to see.  Today, each student made his or her own timeline.  Some of them turned out SO cute!

BY FAR my favorite prediction for the future!! He didn't have time to finish his sentence, but he was writing "I 'will get married.  My future wife will have a baby."  AAAAdorable. ;)
