Length, Width, Weight, Height, OH MY!

Our class has been working hard on various methods for measuring a variety of objects.  We've had a lot of fun experimenting with weight scales, unifix cubes, popsicle sticks, paper clips, and many more!

I created a set of measurement scavenger hunts for students to complete during our math time.  Students must find things longer/shorter than their pencil, someone taller/shorter than themselves, something about the same size as their head, etc.  We've had a blast searching our classroom for each category!  I've uploaded the packet in my TPT store.  Be sure to download the preview for a freebie!

Happy 100th Day!!

Happy 100th Day!!

We did so many fun activities today!!

The students went on a word hunt around our room and tried to write 100 words that they know...

Then we glued 100 pizza toppings onto a giant pizza!

Then we listed 100 reasons why we love our school! <3

My personal favorite, "It is filled with love".  Absolutely love this!!

It was a busy day and I'm pretty exhausted!  Is 8:30 too early for bed? :)

Margery Cuyler

One of my favorite winter books is "The Biggest, Best Snowman" by Margery Cuyler!  We haven't gotten too much snow in our area, but I still enjoy having students write about their own snowman.  We pretend that we are having a contest to see who can build the biggest, best snowman.  Students have to write about how they would build their own snowman.  Some decided to enlist the help of friends, while others wanted to use a bulldozer to make their snowballs!

Last week, we turned our attention to writing opinion pieces.  I've put together a little pack of opinion writing prompts.  Check it out in my TPT store!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!!

I have to apologize for my extreme lack of blog posts lately, I just started grad school and things have been a little busy!

We've been working on our "Neighborhoods" unit during social studies.  We read the book "Me on the Map" by Joan Sweeney, and then learned about cartographers while making our own maps.

The students started with a map of their own bedrooms.  The next day we broadened our maps to include other rooms in the house.  I always love their drawings.  Check out the cat bed in the last photo! :)

In math, we've been working on addition and subtraction facts and story problems.  Together, we made a list of all of the strategies we've used to figure out a problem.  The kids are doing so well with this.  We've even practiced some missing addend and equivalency problems!
